From The Hater:

If you're over the age of 19 and you haven't heard of Justin Bieber, here are some facts: 1. When Usher calls him directly on his iPhone, Justin Bieber resists the natural human reaction to fling the phone across the room 2. Apparently, he lives with Usher? Which seems fine. 3. His music sounds like a Kidz Bop version of Usher, which is basically the secret formula for becoming a teen pop superstar. 4. He has a "swagger coach."

What? Yes:

From The Kansas City Star (via Idolator):

“I have a swagger coach that helps me and teaches me different swaggerific things to do,” Bieber told the Toronto Star last month. “He has helped me with my style and just putting different pieces together and being able to layer and stuff like that.”

(boldface mine)

1. Of course my brain initially parsed that swaggerfic. I can't decide if that should be a thing, or if that is a thing. Fics where one character is tantalized by the other's butchness (or each other's butchness)? Another word for competence kink?

2. He's 15 and he lives with Usher? What?

1) I failed Yuletide.

I am still way ahead in the ficathon karma--3 defaults to more than 40 completions (? is that the word I want?) and more than 10 pinch hits. But still, the Guilt, I haz it. What's really dumb is that I probably spent more time writing the 75% I have done than a lot of people need to do the whole thing, because I am slooooww at writing. Doh! I do think I will be able to do 2 New Year's Resolution fics and hence not be Banned For Life.

2) I did not realize the extent of my Amelie Gillette crush until I'd listened to every single one of the Hatecasts and found I was seriously considering listening to all of them again from the beginning. So far, resisting.

3) I am still not done Christmas shopping, or wrapping. I should really go do that.

4) Thoughts on the Star Trek Kink Meme
a) You do not need to justify your prompt by saying you had a bad day. Seriously, I don't think anyone is more likely to write your mirror!verse Sulu/Sentient Plant master-slave MPREG request because you got hit by a bike messenger and cracked a tooth.
b) This is my favorite prompt ever: "Kirk fulfills Spock's secret fantasy - which is to roleplay Pon Farr. But more specifically, he wants Kirk to pretend to be a Vulcan in Pon Farr. Bonus: if Spock insists that it's not that kinky and actually a really common fantasy for Vulcans."

Dear Yuletide Writer

Dear Yuletide Writer,

Thank you for writing for me! I’m so excited to read what you write. I promise I’m easy to please. By all means, write the story that YOU want to write, that you’ll have fun with or be challenged by.

I like slash, gen, and het. I don’t mind if a fic has a different tone than the source material (ie, if you write an angsty story from a comedic text) in fact, I think it’s interesting. I often like AUs, and things that are risky and experimental, so they sky’s the limit. Go wherever your muse takes you.

Hebrew Bible or Old Testament: Yes, I know ‘the Deuteronomist’ is more of a school than an individual person—so there’s <strike>some</strike> a lot of artistic license built into this prompt. I’m fine with it if you want to be critical of Josiah’s ‘reform' but please no overly simplistic female gods=good/male gods=bad stuff. Court intrigue is awesome. I don’t feel like explicit sex fits well with this prompt, I see them as having more of an intellectual connection, but whatever you want to do.

King of the Hill: While I wouldn’t describe myself as a libertarian, I definitely have some libertarian tendencies (libercurious?), so I love the parts of this show that could be described as libertarian satire. I love the Supanusaphons. I love Strickland Propane and Buck Strickland. The Order of the Straight Order is usually a recipe for instant hilarity, and if Los Dias y Las Noches de Monsignor Martinez makes an appearance, I will love you forever. I’m not into the storylines where Peggy gets herself into some kind of horrible trouble and Hank has to bail her out.

Please don’t make fun of anyone for being poor, uneducated, rural, from Texas. But I bet if you signed up to write this fandom, you’re probably not into that anyway. And a note about Sarah Palin—while I don’t agree with her politics (no offense intended if you do!) I can’t stand criticism of her that’s sexist, classist, or implies that rural people, or people that didn’t go to Yale, don’t get to be part of the conversation. Or that people who like her are necessarily unintelligent (duh, smart people can disagree). Okay, I’m stopping now.

Doom: Explicit sex is <strike>perfectly acceptable</strike> awesome. I love the character “Reaper” and I’d love to know more about him and his unit of ‘rental’ soldiers. What are their unit’s dynamics? How are they different than ‘real’ soldiers? PWP is fine if that what you like to do. “First time” fics are not my favorite, but everything from rough sex to BDSM to dub con is a-okay. Whatever you think Reaper is into ;-)

Big Lebowski: I don’t even know what to say about this fandom. Go as crazy as you want. The dog has papers!

Note my 'girl!McCoy' icon :-)

Your surefire, bulletproof kinks: I will give anything about prostitution a chance. Two paragraphs, minimum. Yes, I know real-life prostitution is generally Very Bad. I will also generally give consensual humiliation a chance, because I like it and it’s so seldom written.

Your most surprising, dirty little secret kinks: Y’all know I’ve never been secretive about any of my fic-ish kinks. Ever. <strike>TMI much?</strike>

Who tops/bottoms: I write a lot of frottage and oral sex, so it often doesn’t apply in the penetration sense. In terms of BDSM, I see McCoy as a top.

Squicks: I almost always backbutton on BDSM fics where the top doesn’t like BDSM but is just doing it because the bottom wants/’needs’ her too. Boo! One thing I love about the much-loved, much-maligned City of Seven Walls is that it had a real TOP sensibility, IMHO. (Being a top is what’s being eroticized.) I can’t think of specific examples, but I feel like it’s usually bottoming that’s being eroticized in most fics? I don’t know if that’s the sense you guys get. I’d be interested in your opinion.

Cliches/tropes common in your fandom that just don't do it for you: There is SO MUCH MPREG in Star Trek fandom! And while this is completely hypocritical for someone who just said what she said about prostitution, I have a hard time getting past: ‘But a starship is too dangerous for a baby!!!
My Fannish Life in Bullet Points

1. Go look at these amazing pictures of Lena Heady. Go ahead, I'll wait.

So bottom line, I would be watching Sarah Conner Chronicles even if sucked, which it doesn't. I love that John is kind of friends with the robot! And that Sarah almost knows when it's pizza day! (that's pretty much me as a parent, except I don't look as amazing in wife beaters) I love that they live in a normal-person house with an older-model microwave that sits awkwardly on the counter and they don't keep up their yard. The robot is very attractive too, especially in the cute outfits she wears to school (I feel creepy saying that).

Although Sarah should have taught both the son and the robot to take the roast out of the oven. '16' and 'robot' are both old enough to be able to just take it out of the oven and not yell to her in the other room that it's burning. That is a little ridiculous. (As is perhaps my attention to this detail, as opposed to the plot, themes, or characterization in the show.)

2. I re-upped my membership to the Organization of Transformative Works. Check it out! Tax deductible and there's gifts now, cool ones <strike>not like that NPR t-shirt that makes you look like a dork at the gym</strike>. (I'm surprised 'wearing NPR t-shirt to the gym' has never been on Stuff White People Like.)

3. I finally broke down and bought a Roku for my Netflix.

4. I'm watching Leverage. I have enough moral nuance in my day, I like things pretty black and white in my entertainment sometimes. It's not deep or anything, but that doesn't bother me.

5. NEW 30 ROCK TONIGHT OMG

6. I don't do ficathons anymore*, but I have 1) McCoy/Spock costume party (angels and devils costumes, ha!) 2) Doom! John/Samantha smut to write next.

7. Check out all the updates to my leftover prompts list! Lots of great stuff to read (or write . . . if you're so inclined) I wish more people had these.

*Okay, not like I used to anyway

Chris Pike, an old friend of George and Winona, is an occasional visitor.
1. I need to get motivated to proof-read by Jack/Daniel ficathon fic. It has the least amount of shippiness that can still be called J/D, but the prompt wasn't relationship-centric! So there you go.

2. I really like this vid. Kirk/Spock, mixture of XI and TOS.

TV:

1. Sarah Connor Chronicles: Just started it. Love that it's about a woman and her teen son. Summer Glau apparently has a whole little niche as Vacant-Eyed Bad Asses. Voiceovers usually annoying, and it would benefit from a little more humor, but the gorgeous lead is going to make up for a lot I think, since I'm incredibly shallow. Although I keep thinking of her as girl!McCoy! I netflixed the first disc, I think I like it enough to buy the whole season (used of course :-) )

2. Dollhouse: Instinct was annoying, but I like serial killer week! Several scenes made me uncomfortable enough to turn away, but it was honest to the subject matter and I was interested enough to persevere. I need to order the DVDs and see how it holds up to rewatch.

3. Glee: So. Much. Hate. The speechifying about teen sex at the 'Celibacy Club'? The hysterical pregnancy/materialistic shrew with an innocent, put-upon husband? Not watching it again.

4. Stargate Universe: Could not get past the first 10 minutes. I was only going to watch the first ep, for Sam, Jack, and Daniel being in it, but even they couldn't get me past the scene where computer guy's mom has cancer. CLICK. Not watching it again.
